The Vicarious Trauma course explores the implications of ongoing, long-term exposure to distressing experiences and provides a framework for understanding vicarious trauma. Prepared and taught by our licensed doctoral-level psychologists, this content is suitable for staff working in high-stress and high-risk settings. Participants will gain a basic understanding of vicarious trauma, how it affects us, and practical coping skills to build resilience and develop coping skills.

- How our brain reacts to difficulty

- The definition of Resilience

- The seven factors of Resilience

- Things you can do to increase Resilience

- Skills you can use to increased Values-Based Coping

Learning Objectives:

- Understand what vicarious trauma is, how it manifests in the brain/body, and how it affects our perception of ourselves, our relationships, and our worldview

- Learn about the seven factors of resilience and how to actively pursue each in your day-to-day life

- Develop an understanding of values-based coping, practical skills you can use in the moment, and how to link these healthy behaviors together through use of a coping skills toolkit
